The 5 stages in our design process

Stage 1. Research

We study the user, environment, competition and your company

From observing people, the environment, their needs and desires and from analysing the market we get the knowledge that will inspire new products. We also pay particular attention to getting to know your company, given that your particularities will essentially affect which ideas are chosen to be developed. ÀNIMA Barcelona prepares the research stage with a single objective in mind: to make your new product portfolio attractive for the market and both technically and economically viable for your company. In fact, carrying out this stage correctly is fundamental to avoiding costly corrections later on.

Stage 2. Innovation

We propose distinctive ideas and concepts to achieve unique, exclusive products

With the information gathered at the research stage, and through different creative processes, the first cycle of the idea generation procedure is set in motion. These ideas will be filtered and selected based on a range of criteria. The aim is to achieve, at the end of the whole development process, a differentiated, appealing product that provides the user with added value, a differential that will make it stand out and make it more attractive than the competition.

Stage 3. Design

We transform ideas into functional, beautiful and exciting products

The design stage is the central part of the product development and launch. It's the hub between the world of ideas (innovation) and the physical product that will reach the user. It's the design stage when the product acquires its form and a large part of its personality and style; when an object's functions and emotions unite and intertwine. At this stage, an important role is played by the juxtaposition of aesthetic and functional aspects and the point of view of those people who'll take the objects we create home with them and who are hoping to find original, unique elements in these objects, beauty and ease of use for their day-to-day lives.

It's also the design stage when decisions are taken regarding how the product will be manufactured, taking into account technical, economic, ergonomic, regulatory and environmental aspects. Its materials, colours and textures are defined and decisions are taken that will subsequently affect the processes of assembly, packaging, transport and installation. Designers must also bear in mind how users are going to interact with the product, how they're going to use it, how it's going to be repaired, if necessary, and how it will be recycled at the end of its useful life.

Stage 4. Development

Ready for manufacture

The requirements for the product's subsequent production had already been considered during the previous stage, but at the development stage the details of each piece, of each component, of each one of the accessories that will go to make up the final product are tackled. The product and each of the pieces that comprise it are approached from an engineering and production perspective. At this stage, all the tools, moulds and matrixes are prepared that are required for its manufacture. It's often the client's own technical office that takes the initiative at this point in the project. ÀNIMA Barcelona's involvement in this stage varies according to the project.

Stage 5. Communication

Product presentation and promotion

Marketing aspects are essential in the first few stages of a new product development project. At the end of the process, just when the product is about to become a reality, once again marketing and communication take over. In many cases we collaborate, directly or by coordinating external teams, in defining and implementing some of the product's communication tools.
